TriBeCa is the TRIangle BElow CAnal Street in Manhattan. Like NY City and other landmarks in NY city, a lot of other things in the country are named after it. So all these other people who are saying it is a shop in illinois or restaurant in North carolina or whatever, while it might be those things also, the original term is from NY City for that neighborhood in Manhattan. It's just like if you went to a place called ';New York Pizza'; in Alabama - sure it's the name of the place, but it's named after New York city, not the other way around.
